Responsibilities

Summary

 

The Programmer is responsible for working with end users to gather requirements for new programs or enhancements, assist in developing detailed design specifications, and creating sample outputs and screen designs for review. Write and revise code based on specifications, troubleshoot and resolve errors, and support the development and execution of test plans to ensure functionality meets user needs. Conduct regression testing to confirm that program changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Consult with end users to gather requirements for proposed programs or enhancements while following corporate and departmental policies.
  • Assist with creating detailed design specifications, including logical/physical design, screen designs, sample outputs, and workflows for review by end users.
  • Write code for new and existing programs based on detailed design specifications and defined project requirements.
  • Review and analyze enhancement or modification requests, determine necessary code changes, and ensure understanding of project goals and scope.
  • Perform incremental testing and debugging during development to ensure programs are error-free and meet requirements, documenting results.
  • Conduct program regression testing to confirm that changes do not negatively impact overall system functionality.
  • Identify and resolve program issues, troubleshooting errors, revising programs, and providing demonstrations or walkthroughs as needed.
  • Support program implementation, including creating installation files, testing in live environments, and providing ongoing support such as training, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Document all development and testing processes, including back-out plans, implementation steps, and end-user support details.
  • Participate in project activities, including preparing reports, maintaining organized project files, updating project plans, and providing status updates to project leads.
  • Ensure timely problem resolution, escalating issues appropriately, documenting resolutions, and providing analysis and feedback to reduce recurring problems.
  • Foster teamwork and professional communication, collaborating with team members, addressing workflow issues, and ensuring excellent internal and external customer service.

Job Requirements

 

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
  • 1+ years of increasingly responsible programming experience using a standard coding language and/or platform is preferred
  • 1+ years of experience writing program designs for small projects is preferred
